Platelet rich plasma injections have been very popular and continue to be utilized with good success for treatment of tendon and joint problems.
Platelet rich plasma utilizes the patient's own blood which is drawn and spun down to isolate the blood platelets which are important for clotting and contain numerous growth factors which are released upon injection into an injured area.
Platelet rich plasma, PRP, can be performed in the office or operating room in isolation or in combination with other surgical procedures.
It is very cost-effective and has shown great promise in the treatment of tendonitis, especially Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis in the foot, as well as peroneal and posterior tibial/anterior tibial tendonitis. PRP is now available in our office. You typically only need one injection.
